Apple and Mixed Berry Crumble

Crumble is a type of dish where fruits or meats are baked and served with a crumbly topping of butter and flour mixture, it is of British origin and it is originally known as brown betty. It was created by Sébastien Girard who is a French baker that immigrated to Britain during the World War II. This dish was intended to be initially created as a pie but due to the lack of ingredients and strict rationing no pie base were made and Sébastien used bread crumbs and just made the pastry as a loose topping. It is then brought over to the United States and evolved into different dishes like the buckle, cobbler, crisp, crumble, and grunt. While the most popular versions are made out of fruits and served as desserts there are variations where meats and vegetables are used and served as a savoury main dish.
